MGS6 EV Review

What is it?

The MG S6 EV is MG’s all-electric family SUV, pitched squarely at buyers who want zero tailpipe emissions without a zero in the bank balance. Sitting between the smaller MG4 and the larger Marvel R in spirit (if not strictly in size), the S6 EV aims to deliver sensible range, modern tech and a long warranty, all wrapped up in a shape that won’t upset the neighbours. It’s very much an everyday EV rather than a techno-showpiece—and that’s sort of the point.

Exterior Design

MG has kept things tidy and inoffensive here. The S6 EV looks contemporary without trying too hard, with slim LED headlights, a closed-off grille and clean body lines that say “modern SUV” rather than “concept car escaped the motor show”. The proportions are nicely judged, and higher trims add larger alloys and subtle styling tweaks. It won’t stop traffic, but it also won’t date quickly—arguably a win if you’re planning to keep it for a while.

Powertrain

Under the skin, the S6 EV uses a single electric motor driving the front wheels. Output is brisk rather than bonkers, delivering smooth acceleration that feels perfectly suited to daily driving. Battery options typically include a Standard Range and Long Range, with the latter offering up to 329 miles (WLTP) on a full charge. Real-world range will be a bit less, naturally, but it’s competitive for the class. DC rapid charging means a 10–80% top-up in around half an hour, which is just enough time for a coffee and a mild existential crisis.

Ride & Handling

On the road, the S6 EV majors on comfort. The suspension is set up to deal with potholes, speed bumps and the general indignities of British roads with minimal fuss. Steering is light and predictable, making town driving and parking easy, though enthusiastic cornering isn’t really its thing. That said, it feels stable and composed at motorway speeds, which is exactly what most buyers will care about.

Interior & Tech

Inside, the S6 EV continues the sensible theme. The cabin is dominated by twin digital displays—one for the driver and one for infotainment—both clear and responsive. Materials are decent for the price, if not luxurious, and everything feels logically laid out. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with a suite of driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. It’s all very user-friendly, which is more than can be said for some pricier rivals.

Practicality

This is where the S6 EV quietly shines. There’s plenty of room for adults in both rows, with a flat floor in the rear helping taller passengers stretch out. The boot is generously sized for a compact SUV, easily swallowing family shopping, buggies or a weekend’s worth of questionable life choices. Rear seats fold flat, and there are enough cubbies and cupholders to keep day-to-day life organised.

Verdict

The MG S6 EV isn’t trying to reinvent the electric car—it’s trying to make one that fits neatly into normal life. And on that front, it succeeds. It offers strong value, a useful real-world range, plenty of kit and MG’s excellent warranty coverage. It may lack the badge prestige or driving sparkle of some rivals, but as a comfortable, practical and affordable electric SUV, it makes a very compelling case. Sensible shoes? Yes. But very good ones.
