BMW is a brand with a broader range of models than just about any other firm.
With a raft of EVs, performance cars, affordable hatchbacks and seven-seat SUVs for customers to choose from, there really is something to suit most. And in 2022, the BMW range will continue to grow, with the brand launching a raft of new models from across the motoring spectrum.
Let’s take a look at the new BMWs we can expect in 2022.
iX
BMW might have introduced its iX right at the tail-end of last year, but it will be 2022 when the brand’s current EV flagship will really gain momentum. The striking-looking SUV has already impressed with its modern and premium interior and impressive diving dynamics, while BMW will also launch a flagship version later this year.
Called the M60, it will be BMW’s most powerful electrified model to date, with its electric motors kicking out a huge 609bhp, which will allow for a 0-60mph time of just 3.6 seconds. A range of up to 357 miles is also promised. The new iX M60 will launch in the summer, with prices starting from £111,905.
i4
The i4 is a hugely significant new BMW, as it’s the brand’s first model to take on Tesla’s Model 3 – which, for context, was the UK’s second best-selling car overall in 2021. With a long electric range of up to 365 miles, a great driving experience and superb build quality, there’s a lot going for the new i4.
BMW is also offering a powerful M50 version, which aims to rival Tesla’s Model 3 Performance with its hugely powerful 536bhp motors, which mean it can hit 60mph in just 3.7 seconds.
2 Series Coupe and Convertible
The market for smaller coupes is pretty small these days, but that hasn’t stopped BMW from introducing its new next-generation 2 Series, which will shortly be reaching dealerships. Bringing the same well-loved rear-wheel-drive layout, it’s great fun to drive, along with roomier than its predecessor.
The yet-to-be-revealed Convertible is also expected to follow later in 2022, perhaps just in time for summer.
2 Series Active Tourer
The 2 Series family extends further, though, and even to MPVs – with the Active Tourer. It was quite a surprise when BMW decided to launch a second-generation model in this segment, which is a fraction of what it used to be.
However, this market is key to attracting new customers to the BMW brand, while the new Active Tourer’s smart new look, greater technology and roomier interior should help ensure it’s a success.
New X1/electric iX1
Given the X1 is BMW’s most affordable SUV, it’s no surprise that it’s hugely popular. The German firm will reveal its new third-generation version later in 2022, bringing with it a more stylish design, a roomier interior and more of the brand’s most up-to-date technology.
At the same time the X1 will also be offered as an EV for the first time, as BMW rapidly scales up its electric car range.
New 7 Series/i7
Also joining BMW’s electric range in 2022 will be the i7 – an electric version of the brand’s next-generation 7 Series. This large electric saloon will rival the Mercedes EQS, and as one of BMW’s flagship models is expected to introduce a whole range of new technologies into the mix.
At the same time, petrol, diesel and hybrid models will likely be sold alongside it, while all versions are expected to adopt a far more imposing design, reflecting that of new BMW’s like the iX.
M2
Possibly the most exciting new model for sports car fans in 2022 will be the new BMW M2. The last-generation was often regarded as one of the best driver’s cars around, and it’s thought the new version will prove equally entertaining.
Set to use a detuned engine from the M3, this new sports car promises to be one of the most thrilling debuts this year.
M3 Touring
But the new M2 won’t be BMW’s only eagerly-awaited M car in 2022, as this year will also see the arrival of the first ever M3 Touring. It’s a car fans have been wanting for decades, and they’ll finally have access to it in 2022.
Bringing estate car practicality to the BMW M range, there’s plenty resting on this new model, and it’s highly unlikely to disappoint.
XM
At the opposite end of BMW’s M car range will be the XM – a bespoke high-performance SUV that will be the brand’s first standalone performance model (e.g not based on a regular car) since the M1 sports car.
Only shown so far in concept form, the XM will become BMW’s SUV flagship, and will use a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain that will develop a vast 750bhp. Set to enter production later in the year, the XM most certainly won’t be a shrinking violet as it goes head-to-head with models like the Audi RSQ8.
