Though February is often one of the quietest months for new car registrations, this year was a bit different as sales saw a resurgence – up 26.2 per cent to 74,441 registrations.
Sales of all fuel types, with the exception of diesel, increased, with hybrid and petrol models increasing the most. But what about the most popular new cars last month? Let’s dive in and see.
1. Vauxhall Corsa – 2,818 registrations
Vauxhall’s Corsa continues to be a hugely popular choice and proves that there’s plenty of life left in the supermini segment just yet. With 2,818 examples registered, it was by far the most popular model in February.
The Corsa continues to stand out with its value, helped further by Vauxhall currently offering zero per cent APR. Alongside petrol versions, there’s also a Corsa Electric available, which brings a range of up to 222 miles.

Vauxhall’s Mokka caused quite a stir when it was introduced in 2021, showcasing a striking new design for this manufacturer, which has now been rolled out onto models like the Astra and Grandland.
Buyers clearly love the design too, with 1,805 being registered last month. It’s also got a high-tech interior, and like the Corsa, there’s the choice of regular combustion engines and the Mokka Electric.

The Puma is proving to be a hugely important car for Ford, and is now the blue oval’s most popular model, outselling the Fiesta and Focus. The Puma is a stylish crossover that also offers plenty of cabin space, especially when its innovative ‘Megabox’ under-boot floor storage.
The Puma is also the best car in its class to drive, while is also equipped with efficient mild-hybrid petrol engines that will help to bring running down. A hot ST model is also available for those wanting something sportier.

Nissan’s crossovers are among some of the best around, and in February it was the smaller Juke that swapped places with the traditionally best-selling Qashqai. The Juke is also the only model on the top 10 list that’s produced in the UK too.
Offering a stylish design and plenty in the way of standard equipment, Nissan has also recently introduced a hybrid version, which brings lower running costs and improved performance.

The Hyundai Tucson is now a regular on the list of best-selling models, with this South Korean firm really hitting the jackpot with this latest model. Offering a fantastic design, with elements including an illuminating grille and LED light bar, it’s really helped Hyundai to take this SUV further upmarket.
It offers a huge amount of interior space too, while there’s a broad choice of electrified powertrains, including a plug-in hybrid.

The Tesla Model Y was the only EV to make the list of best-selling cars list, with just shy of 1,500 examples of this electric SUV being registered in February. It’s recently benefitted from a significant price cut, with the Model Y now available from a competitive £44,990.
Aided further by almost immediate delivery, this Tesla is ideal for those not wanting to wait months for their new car. With a range of up to 331 miles and a strong focus on technology, it’s not surprising that the Model Y is doing so well.

SUVs dominated the list of the most popular new cars in February. Volkswagen’s T-Roc makes this list when its more traditional Polo and Golf models are nowhere to be seen, with 1,360 examples sold in February.
The T-Roc is one of the most well-rounded compact SUVs on the market, offering a great mix of quality, spaciousness and enjoyment from behind the wheel. Though no electric or hybrid T-Rocs are on sale, there is a great mix of petrol and diesel engines available.

While Ford will be ending production of the Fiesta by the middle of the year, with just a few months to go this supermini is remaining exceedingly popular, with just over 1,300 registered in the usually quiet month of February.
There are still plenty of buyers choosing the Fiesta for its modern styling and great driving experience, while it’s able to suit a broad range of customers owing to its wide-ranging talents. A 197bhp ST model is also among one of the best hot hatches on the market today.

Choice is absolutely key to the Sportage’s appeal, and it’s the only car that can be bought as a petrol, diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. With a broad range of trim levels, this variation is absolutely key to this Kia’s success.
The Sportage also packs a practical interior, while this latest model brings a striking exterior design and upmarket interior. Kia’s class-leading seven-year warranty also remains a key selling point.

Last but not least we have the Toyota C-HR, which is a rare addition to the best-sellers list. This hybrid crossover stands out with its eye-catching looks, while the efficient powertrain means it will be affordable to run too.
Like most Toyota models, it’s got a great reputation for reliability, while it’s good to drive by class standards. Though a new model is being readied, this outgoing model is clearly remaining popular.
