New Citroën C5 Aircross (2025)

The Citroën C5 Aircross has had a serious glow-up. The 2025 version of this family SUV promises more comfort, better tech, and—importantly—a full electric model for the first time. But with so many similar cars on the market, especially from within Citroën’s own family, does it do enough to stand out?

What’s New?

The C5 Aircross has always leaned into comfort, and the new one doubles down on that. You can still get it with petrol or hybrid engines, but now there are two electric versions too—one offering up to 422 miles of range. That’s further than a Tesla Model Y Long Range.

On the outside, it’s gone from soft and curvy to sharp and modern. There’s a bold new look with angular lines, big wheels (up to 20 inches), and some eye-catching rear lights that stick out from the body. It looks more futuristic, but still friendly.

Interior: Living Room Vibes

Climb inside, and you’ll notice the difference right away. The old model felt a bit plain, but the new C5 Aircross feels much more upmarket. Soft-touch materials, light colours, and a huge 13-inch portrait touchscreen give it a fresh, airy feel.

The seats are the real stars here. They’re filled with extra foam—think armchair levels of squish—and come with heating, cooling and even massage options if you tick the right boxes. It’s clearly built with long journeys in mind.

Rear seat passengers won’t feel left out either. There’s loads of legroom and headroom, and the backrests can even recline a bit, which is rare at this price point.

Boot Space & Storage

Need space for family gear? You’ll get a 650-litre boot, which is bigger than the ones in the Kia Sportage and Skoda Karoq. There’s no annoying lip to lift things over, and there’s extra space under the floor for charging cables.

There’s decent storage inside too—with a big cubby under the armrest and large door bins. The cupholders are a bit fiddly though, especially the one under the floating centre console.

Engines, Electric Range & Charging

There’s a C5 Aircross for just about everyone:

  • Mild hybrid (1.2-litre petrol): Good for town driving, with some electric help to save fuel.

  • Plug-in hybrid (1.6-litre petrol + electric motor): Can do up to 62 miles on electric power alone—great for commutes.

  • Electric (EV):

    • 73kWh battery: Up to 323 miles of range.

    • 97kWh battery: Up to 422 miles—that’s more than many premium rivals.

    • Fast charging from 20–80% in about 30 minutes.

Verdict: Is It Worth a Look?

If you want a quiet, comfy SUV that doesn’t shout about itself, the C5 Aircross makes a decent case. It’s not the most exciting, and it faces tough competition from cars like the Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland—which are built on pretty much the same platform.

The Peugeot looks cooler inside, but it’s pricier. The Vauxhall is cheaper but doesn’t ride as nicely. The Citroën? It strikes a nice middle ground—especially if comfort’s high on your wishlist.

Just don’t expect magic. It’s a well-thought-out family car, not a game-changer.
