Genesis is turning up the heat with its high-performance GV60 Magma, a track-inspired version of its all-electric SUV. Set to arrive in the UK in early 2025 with an expected price close to £100,000, this pumped-up EV promises thrilling performance, premium design, and cutting-edge technology. Here’s what you need to know.
Performance & Power
The GV60 Magma shares its E-GMP platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, meaning it’s likely to feature the same 89kWh battery and 641bhp dual-motor setup. If it matches the Ioniq 5 N’s stats, expect a 0-62mph time of around 3.4 seconds and a range of approximately 278 miles.
However, Genesis is tuning the Magma for a more refined driving experience, focusing on driver engagement rather than outright speed. Unlike the raw aggression of Hyundai’s N models, the GV60 Magma is designed for what Genesis calls the “gentleman driver,” blending performance with comfort.

Technology & Driving Feel
Genesis is placing a big emphasis on software-driven performance. The GV60 Magma is expected to include features like artificial gearchanges and synthetic engine noise, similar to those in the Ioniq 5 N. These features enhance the driving experience by simulating traditional petrol-powered dynamics, making it feel more engaging behind the wheel.
Vehicle development chief Tyrone Johnson highlighted that motion cues, sound design, and driving dynamics will be just as crucial as raw power. This approach sets Genesis apart from Hyundai, much like how BMW’s M division differs from Alpina.
Future of the Magma Line
The GV60 Magma is just the beginning. Genesis plans to roll out Magma versions of every model in its line-up, meaning more high-performance electric vehicles are on the way. There’s even talk of Magma becoming a standalone performance brand, much like Cupra’s split from SEAT.

The GV60 Magma represents Genesis' first step into high-performance electric vehicles, blending speed with a premium driving experience. With its expected UK launch in early 2025, it will be interesting to see how it compares to rivals in both the performance and luxury EV markets.
