BMW iX3 EV 2025: UK Specs and Launch Details

A New Era Begins With Neue Klasse

The new iX3 is the first model to use BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. This platform introduces sixth-generation eDrive motors, an 800-volt electrical system, and a focus on improving efficiency and reducing lifecycle emissions.

BMW estimates that the new production methods and technology reduce lifetime emissions by more than 30% compared with the previous iX3.

Powertrain and Performance

The initial model, the iX3 50 xDrive, has two motors and all-wheel drive. Output is rated at 463 bhp and 476 lb-ft of torque, with a 0–62 mph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

It uses a 108.7 kWh battery with new cylindrical cells and 800V architecture. Claimed range is up to 500 miles WLTP, though real-world figures will likely be lower.

Charging and Energy Features

The iX3 supports 400 kW DC charging. Under ideal conditions, this could add around 231 miles of range in 10 minutes.

It also offers bidirectional charging, which can supply power back to a home (vehicle-to-home) or the electricity grid (vehicle-to-grid).

Interior and Technology

The cabin of the new BMW iX3 reflects the company’s broader Neue Klasse design shift. The layout is simpler and more minimal than previous models, with BMW moving away from the traditional instrument cluster and the long-standing iDrive rotary controller.

A Panoramic Display stretches across the base of the windscreen, showing core driver information directly above the steering wheel along with customisable widgets visible to passengers. A new, hexagonal central touchscreen complements it, angled slightly towards the driver to keep controls accessible. Both displays are designed to be fast, clear, and responsive.

BMW has rethought the steering wheel too: a futuristic, flat-topped design is standard, although a more conventional wheel is available as an option.

The iX3 makes broader use of recycled materials and synthetic alternatives to leather. Chrome has been reduced, and interior finishes emphasise a more neutral, modern aesthetic. The cabin is designed for quietness, with improved insulation compared with the outgoing iX3.

Translucent dashboard lighting adds a subtle ambient effect, and higher trims introduce additional comfort features such as larger alloy wheels, upgraded upholstery, and adaptive driver assistance.

Pricing and Rivals

BMW has said the 2025 iX3 will cost less than €70,000 in Europe. In the UK, this is expected to mean roughly £59,000–£64,000, depending on specification and exchange rates.

At that price, the iX3 will compete with the Mercedes GLC Electric, Audi Q6 e-tron, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo EX60 in the midsize electric SUV segment.

UK Launch Timeline

Deliveries for the UK are scheduled from 7 March 2026, shortly after the European launch. The US market will follow later in summer 2026. A China-specific version is also planned for release in mid-2026.

BMW plans to expand the Neue Klasse platform to over 40 models by 2027. The iX3 is the first example and will provide the foundation for future electric BMWs.

UK buyers should expect further updates on specifications, pricing, and availability closer to launch.
