Aston Martin creates 100 new jobs at St Athan DBX factory

More than 100 new technical jobs will be created at the Welsh facility

Aston Martin has announced that it will create 100 new jobs at its factory in St Athan, Wales, which is where the firm’s DBX SUV is produced.

Arriving as the brand’s second UK manufacturing plant, St Athan was officially opened in late 2019 to produce Aston's first SUV, and with the imminent arrival of a sportier DBX707 model, the firm is undergoing a recruitment drive to support the creation of this new car.

The plant has had much uncertainty surrounding it since its opening, largely due to the coronavirus pandemic, which caused around 200 agency workers to lose their jobs last year. With the brand expecting a bump in sales due to the arrival of the DBX707, these new roles are likely to ensure support for this upcoming model. The brand also recently launched a recruitment drive to find 40 new apprentices to work in roles across the company.

Tobias Moers, chief executive officer of Aston Martin Lagonda said: “As we ramp-up production of DBX707, we are delighted to have the opportunity to increase our team at St Athan and create more employment opportunities for the local community.

“Our DBX SUV is the first Welsh-built production car for nearly 50 years and these new positions are an opportunity to join a team delivering our truly incredible new DBX707 derivative which is setting new benchmarks for performance in the luxury segment.”

The DBX707 was unveiled at the start of February as the ‘world’s most powerful luxury SUV’. Featuring a 4.0-litre V8 producing a huge 697bhp and 900Nm of torque, it’s significantly more powerful than the standard DBX, and gets a range of tweaks – both mechanical and visually – to enhance the way it drives. First deliveries of it are scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.
