Mini’s Countryman expanded the firm’s range of cars and gave buyers an option over the standard hatch. It has more space than the classic three-door but retains the same retro-infused design and classy cabin.
That makes it an excellent buy for drivers who want the look and charm of the regular hatchback but just need a bit more space. Here, we’re going to take a look at five reasons why you should check out the Mini Countryman.
It’s got an eye-catching exterior design
Mini’s cars have always managed to capture some of the sparkle of the legendary original and, though it could be argued that the Countryman goes against the firm’s lightweight, compact ethos, its design is very attractive.
It takes many of the hatch’s design features and enlarges them. However, it all comes together in one very classy car.
It’s got more space inside
There’s a reason why many people bypass the hatch and into the Countryman - space. It’s got a lot more interior room to offer, both in terms of head- and legroom. Even those cars fitted with a panoramic sunroof offer plenty of headroom, too.
Plus, there’s a 450-litre boot to use, which can be increased to 1,390 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
There’s a good range of engines to choose from
Mini has always offered its Countryman with a good range of engines and that has remained the same to this day. Less powerful Cooper models use a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, but these can bring up to 44.1mpg.
Step up to Cooper S versions and you’ll find that engine increased to a 2.0-litre version, while there’s ALL4 all-wheel-drive on offer here, too. At the top of the range is the performance-focused John Cooper Works model, which brings just over 300bhp.
An efficient plug-in hybrid remains available
Though a diesel Countryman is no longer available, the plug-in hybrid version provides an extremely efficient option. It pairs a three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and battery, enabling super-low running costs and great levels of efficiency.
In fact, Mini claims that you should get up to 31 miles of electric-only running from a charge while, with fully topped-up batteries, you could see up to 156.9mpg.
All cars get plenty of standard equipment
Mini has really boosted the levels of standard equipment that you get with the Countryman in recent years. As such, even entry-level Classic models benefit from a full navigation system and Apple CarPlay, as well as alloy wheels.
Right at the top of the list, Untamed versions gain green leather seats, piano black inlays and a special illuminated fascia for the dashboard.
