Being in charge of a fleet can be a big responsibility, and making sure you get the right vehicles for the company is key.
With more choice than ever to choose from, getting the right vehicles can prove to be challenging – particularly with more alternatively-fuelled vehicles on offer that can bring major savings.
Here are 10 of the best cars for fleet managers…
Volvo V60
Volvo has quickly become one of the must-have manufacturers in the business car world – now offering the same levels of appeal as other premium manufacturers. The stylish V60 gives a fantastic first impression, while its high-quality interior is a joy to spend time in. You’ll also find a great choice of powertrains – including frugal diesels, punchy petrols and an impressive plug-in hybrid.
BMW X2
BMW has one of the most extensive range of SUVs on offer, but it’s the glamorous X2 that could be an ideal choice for your fleet. It’s great to drive, looks the part and has an excellent interior. Later in 2020 you’ll also be able to get the X2 xDrive25e – a new plug-in hybrid version delivering up to 35 miles of zero-emission driving.
Fiat 500 Hybrid
If you’re really wanting to help your fleet stand out, and don’t require large premium models, there are few better options than the chic Fiat 500 – a model that looks like nothing else on the roads.
Fiat has also made its city car even more appealing thanks to a new mild-hybrid 1.0-litre petrol powertrain, which offers reduced fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions.
Hyundai IONIQ Electric
The Hyundai IONIQ might not be the most premium and stylish model on the market today, but if you’re wanting to switch your fleet to electric and at a relatively modest price, there are few better options than this. The Electric version (hybrids are also available) now features a larger 38.3kWh battery, which sees the range increase to 184 miles.
Mini Electric
Mini’s stylish supermini has always been a popular choice with fleets, and alongside the efficient petrol options, buyers now have a chance to choose an all-electric version. It’s built in Oxford, and is an ideal option if your fleet is primarily city-focused. A 144-mile electric range is still impressive, though.
Ford Puma
With crossovers becoming increasingly more popular with private car buyers, it’s not a surprise that these models are becoming a big hit with fleets, too. Ford’s latest crossover is the all-new Puma – a model that is both great to drive and spacious. It also features new mild-hybrid powertrains (available on the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine), which help to deliver reduced running costs and better fuel economy.
Volkswagen Golf
The Volkswagen Golf has long been an enormously popular choice with the fleet market, and an all-new eighth-generation version is set to continue this trend. With its new mild-hybrid powertrains, as well as a completely new interior, the Golf remains one of the best hatchbacks on sale today. You’ll also soon be able to get it with a plug-in hybrid powertrain – while if you’re looking for an electric model, the e-Golf (based on the last-generation model) remains on sale.
Nissan Leaf
The Sunderland-built Nissan Leaf remains one of the most popular EVs on sale, and thanks to its spacious size and decent electric range (up to 239 miles), it could be a fantastic addition to any fleet. It’s also packed with tech, while its zero-emissions powertrain is something that is becoming very appealing to firms looking to cut their carbon footprint.
Mercedes-Benz E300 de
Mercedes is one of few manufacturers offering diesel plug-in hybrid models, but it makes a lot of sense by combining an efficient diesel engine with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
It is more efficient than the petrol-electric hybrid, and is a superb choice if you have a fleet that covers long distances, but that’s also able to charge overnight.
Audi A4
Audi’s saloons are popular choices with the company car world, and the mid-size A4 would be a fantastic addition to any fleet. While not available with any plug-in hybrid powertrains (unlike rivals from BMW and Mercedes), ultra-efficient diesel engines and a class-leading interior make the A4 a very appealing model. Recent changes to the line-up also make it more affordable and well-equipped than ever.
