Ford took a bold decision in launching the Mustang Mach-e as its first standalone EV, choosing not to play it safe and instead name its new electric SUV ‘Mustang’.
With muscle car-inspired styling to go with the name, and a sportier driving experience than many of its rivals, it proved to be a great decision, with the Mach-e selling well for the firm.
Since its launch in 2021, the range has been expanded too – not least with the addition of a sportier GT model, bringing cooler styling and additional performance.
Here’s what you need to know about the Ford Mustang Mach-e…
What powertrains are available?
The Mach-e line-up isn’t all that straightforward, with five slightly different powertrains available.
Kicking off the range is the ‘Standard Range rear-wheel-drive’ car, which uses a 70kWh battery and an electric motor producing 265bhp and 430Nm of torque. This allows for a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds, along with a range of 273 miles. The ‘Standard Range’ car is also offered with all-wheel-drive, and though it gets no more power, the additional traction helps to reduce the 0-60mph time to 6.1 seconds, though the claimed range drops to 248 miles.
All the other models are the ‘Extended Range’ versions, which use a larger 91kWh battery. If you want the longest range, choose the rear-wheel-drive car, which is capable of a remarkable 379 miles from a charge. This uses a 290bhp motor, with 0-60mph taking 6.8 seconds. Next up is the all-wheel-drive car, which puts out 346bhp, and can hit 60mph in 5.6 seconds. It offers a range of 335 miles.
At the top of the range is the GT, which packs a huge 482bhp and 860Nm of torque – equating to a 0-60mph time of just 4.2 seconds, along with a claimed range of 310 miles.
What trim levels are offered?
Rather than offer trim levels in the traditional sense, the amount of equipment varies depending on the powertrain you choose. Full equipment highlights and prices are explained below.
RWD Standard Range – from £42,530
All Mach-e models come with plenty of equipment, with standard features including LED headlights, Mustang LED rear lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. You also get a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen including satellite navigation and FordPass Connect. Other features include a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, wireless smartphone charging, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control and blind spot monitoring.
RWD Extended Range – from £47,580
You’re mainly paying here for the Extended Range’s larger battery, which unlocks a maximum range of 379 miles.
AWD Standard Range – from £50,850
All-wheel-drive cars can be identified by their larger 19-inch alloy wheels and red brake callipers, while they also get electric front seats, an electric boot, a panoramic glass roof, a 360-degree parking camera, park assist and an upgraded 10-speaker sound system.
AWD Extended Range – from £58,230
Again, pay for the Extended Range model and you’re predominantly paying for the larger battery, offering a range of up to 335 miles.
GT – from £66,280
In addition to the AWD Extended Range, the top-spec GT comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, a unique GT grille and 19-inch Brembo brakes with red callipers. It also gets performance seats, a bespoke suspension setup, and – of course – plenty of additional performance.
What about personalisation?
The Mach-e is already quite a funky-looking car, though there’s still scope for further personalisation. As standard, it comes painted in Absolute Black, though there’s a great range of colours on offer, including bright shades like Cyber Orange, Grabber Blue and Rapid Red.
The only other option is a panoramic roof (£995) for the GT car, along with the ‘Tech Pack+’ for the rear-wheel-drive model – adding a 360-degree camera, electric boot, 10-speaker sound system and panoramic glass roof for £3,600.
