As part of Audi’s growing electric car range, the latest addition has been the Q4 e-tron.
A brand-new model – rather than an electric version of an existing car – it’s also Audi’s first model to be built on the Volkswagen Group’s dedicated MEB platform, allowing greater freedom when it comes to packaging.
It’s already proved itself to be one of the most well-rounded electric SUVs on the market, and with the recent addition of the sleeker Sportback version, there’s even greater reasons to choose it. Here’s what you need to know about the Audi Q4 e-tron.
What powertrains are available?
Audi offers a choice of three powertrains on the Q4 e-tron – the 35, 40 and 50 quattro.
Let’s start with the 35, which uses a 52kWh battery combined with a rear electric motor producing 168bhp and 310Nm of torque. Audi claims an electric range of 208 miles, with the Q4 able to reach 0-60mph in 8.8 seconds.
Most buyers are expected to go for the mid-range 40 version, which features a more powerful electric motor (producing 201bhp and 310Nm of torque) and a far larger 77kWh battery, which increases the electric range to a claimed 316 miles, with 0-60mph taking 8.3 seconds.
At the top of the range is the 50 quattro, which features a second electric motor that enables all-wheel-drive. Performance figures increase to 295bhp and 460Nm of torque, which reduces the 0-60mph time to six seconds. A 77kWh battery is also used, with Audi claiming an electric range of 295 miles.
In terms of rapid charging, the Q4 e-tron’s battery can be charged from five to 80 per cent in 30 minutes when being topped up at 125kW.
What trim levels are offered?
Audi offers four trims on the Q4 e-tron, with equipment highlights and pricing as follows.
Sport – from £40,035
Kicking off the Q4 range is the Sport version, though it still comes with a decent amount of equipment as standard. Features include 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, a 10.1-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital dial system known as a Virtual Cockpit. You also get cruise control, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and keyless start.
S line – from £42,135
Upgrade to the S line if you want sportier looks, as this version adds a more stylish bodykit, along with 20-inch alloy wheels and privacy glass. It also features matt aluminium interior detailing, a black headlining and extended interior lighting. Sports suspension also drops the ride by 15mm.
Edition 1 – from £46,230
Edition 1 is the launch version of the Q4, and gets a stealthier look achieved by a black styling package and matt grey 20-inch alloy wheels. It also features part-leather upholstery, electric front seats with memory function, extended LED interior lighting and a cool flat top and bottomed steering wheel.
Vorsprung – from £53,735
At the top of the range is the Vorsprung, which brings a raft of additional kit. Extras include larger 21-inch alloy wheels, nappa leather upholstery, adaptive dampers, a panoramic sunroof, larger digital dials and a Sonos sound system. It also adds a whole range of extra driver assistance tech, including an augmented reality head-up display, blind spot monitoring, side assist, a panoramic camera system and adaptive cruise assist.
What about personalisation?
Audi offers a decent selection of colours on the Q4 e-tron, with shades including Navarra Blue, Geyser Blue and a funky Aurora Purple. You can also choose between an Alcantara and leather interior, while Audi’s funky square-shaped steering wheel can be optioned, though can be tricky to use, so it’s worth staying clear of unless you really like the design.
Various features that you’d find on top-spec models are also available on lesser trims, including Matrix LED headlights, electric front seats and a ‘Technology Pack’ that bundles together an augmented reality head-up display and a larger Virtual Cockpit dials system.
