Skoda is a manufacturer renowned for its brilliant family cars, and a key part of its success in recent years has been from its SUVs.
Thanks to the Kodiaq and Karoq, Skoda has a strong lead here, but buyers can also choose the smaller Kamiq too – the newest introduction to the brand’s SUV range.
This compact model rivals the likes of the Volkswagen T-Cross and Renault Captur, and seriously impresses with the way it drives and its impressive spaciousness, especially given its compact size.
So if you’re looking at a new Skoda Kamiq, here’s what you need to know…
What engines are available?
As part of a recent update, Skoda has resorted to a petrol-only engine line-up for its Kamiq.
The range begins with a turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine, which you can choose with outputs of either 94bhp or 108bhp. The former comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the latter gets the option of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic.
The 108bhp option is the most efficient – returning up to 52.3mpg, while also delivering a bit of extra poke compared to the lesser-powered unit.
At the top of the range is a turbocharged 148bhp 1.5-litre petrol unit, which gets the option of a manual or automatic. With a 0-60mph time of just 7.8 seconds, this model delivers a decent punch for a model of this type, while still remaining quite efficient, returning 45.6mpg, even in its thirstiest form.
What trim levels are offered?
With five trim levels to choose from the Kamiq, there is certainly no shortage of choice. Equipment highlights and pricing are as follows.
S – from £18,730
All Kamiq models benefit from plenty of standard equipment, including 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, air conditioning and electrically adjustable door mirrors. You also get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with DAB radio and Bluetooth, along with autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist.
SE – from £19,845
SE would be our pick of the range, as it adds larger 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers and a large eight-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with automatic lights, rear parking sensors and cruise control.
SE Drive – from £20,580
Up next is the SE Drive, which brings revised 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen that comes with additional connected services.
SE L – from £22,535
High-spec SE L models bring large 18-inch alloy wheels, along with full LED rear lights and additional chrome styling. It also features keyless start, dual-zone climate control, electric folding mirrors and a 10.25-inch digital dials system.
Monte Carlo – from £23,865
Right at the top of the range, the Monte Carlo brings sporty flair to the Kamiq range. With its black 18-inch alloy wheels, more aggressive bodykit and full LED lighting, it also looks the part. You also get red and black sports seats and a high-end panoramic glass roof.
What about personalisation?
With plenty of different trims to choose from, it’s easy to make your Kamiq stand out. However, you can go further, with the Kamiq available with 14 different colours – including with cool shades such as Maple Brown, Rallye Green and Velvet Red. A range of alloy wheel designs are also on offer.
A whole host of options are on offer, too, including a Winter Pack, which adds heated front and rear seats for £450, A reversing camera is also a good option at £262.50, along with wireless charging for £200.
