Volkswagen has announced that its new compact Caddy California camper van is now available to order, with prices starting from £30,720.
Based on the brand’s Caddy van, which was recently comprehensively updated, this new camper is the smallest in Volkswagen’s California range, slotting beneath the brand’s Transporter and Crafter-based campers. The German firm says it now means there is a ‘touring model for every budget, journey and adventure’.
It features a new foldable bed, which measures 2m x 1m, with a high-quality mattress, that is stored in the parcel shelf and opens out above the rear seats. The Caddy California can seat five, but the rear bench can be removed completely, while a standalone tailgate tent is available as an accessory to expand the space on offer.
Buyers also get a mini-fridge included, along with a single-burner cooker and integrated gas bottle. Other standard features include LED interior lighting, air conditioning, an alarm and cruise control. An 8.25-inch touchscreen with App-Connect smartphone mirroring is also provided, along with 16-inch alloy wheels.
Prices for the new Caddy California start from £30,720 (including VAT), with the engine choice including an 112bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a manual gearbox, along with a 120bhp 2.0-litre diesel paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
Buyers can also choose the Caddy California in a longer, and therefore roomier, ‘Maxi’ version, with prices rising to £36,954. It’s now available to order, with first deliveries expected in time for the summer camping season.
