New Volkswagen Tayron: The Seven-Seater SUV Redefining Space and Practicality

Volkswagen has introduced the Tayron, a seven-seater SUV designed to replace the Tiguan Allspace. This model aims to address the growing demand for spacious vehicles that can accommodate larger families and groups.

The Tayron is 231mm longer than the standard Tiguan, allowing it to incorporate a third row of seats. This addition provides more flexibility for passengers and luggage, with the vehicle offering a total of 198 litres of extra boot space. The Tayron can be configured in both five- and seven-seat arrangements, enhancing its practicality for different user needs.

The new Tayron offers a diverse range of engine options, including a mild-hybrid petrol, a pure petrol engine, a petrol plug-in hybrid, and diesel variants. The lineup kicks off with a 1.5-litre turbo mild-hybrid engine producing 148bhp, while more powerful options include a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine available in 201bhp and 261bhp configurations. Diesel enthusiasts can opt for a 2.0-litre turbo diesel available in 148bhp or 190bhp, with both front- and all-wheel-drive options.

The standout model is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV), combining a 2.0-litre turbo engine with an electric motor. This system offers either 201bhp or 268bhp, boasting an electric-only range of over 62 miles, making it an appealing choice for those looking to minimise fuel consumption.

While the Tayron retains similarities to the Tiguan, it features unique design elements that distinguish it as a separate model. The slim headlights and full-width light bar across the bonnet provide a modern aesthetic, while its slightly wider stance and sporty sloping roofline enhance its imposing presence. Alloy wheels range from 17 to 19 inches, further contributing to its robust look.

The Tayron is poised to compete with established models in the seven-seater SUV market, such as the Hyundai Santa Fe. Its combination of space, technology, and versatility makes it a formidable contender against rivals like the Ford Transit Custom Nugget and Volkswagen California.

With pricing expected to be slightly higher than the Tiguan, which starts at £34,075, the Tayron is likely to begin around £45,000. UK deliveries are anticipated to start in March 2025, making it an attractive option for families looking to upgrade their travel experience.
