The BMW Group has announced that it has handed over its one millionth electrified vehicle to a customer in Germany.
The Group, which includes BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, offers customers a range of both plug-in hybrids and all-electric models. From BMW that includes the i3 EV and popular 330e and 530e PHEVs, with the German marque ramping up its electric range recently with the new iX3, i4 and iX. Electrified models from Mini include the Countryman Plug-in Hybrid and the Mini Electric hatchback.
The Group’s one millionth model of this kind was the brand’s new flagship iX xDrive 40, which was given to its new owners at the brand’s BMW Welt experience centre yesterday, December 6. The customer also received a complimentary BMW Wallbox for easier home charging.
BMW has also set out its intentions to ramp up production of its hybrids and EVs too. In two years time, it hopes to reach two million electrified vehicle sales – and double this year’s sales in 2022. By 2025, the BMW Group will have delivered two million all-electric models. Meanwhile in 2030, half of its sales are expected to be for EVs.
There’s a lot more electrified models to come from BMW too, with 2022 set to see the introduction of battery-powered versions of the 7 Series saloon and X1 crossover. In 2023 there will also be an electric 5 Series. From Mini, the next Countryman will also be electric, while Rolls-Royce will launch its first EV, the Spectre, before the end of 2023.
