Alpina has unveiled its new B4 Gran Coupe as a more practical, performance-focused model.
With BMW recently taking over the German tuning firm, which has specialised in the brand’s models for years, and built up a strong partnership, ‘BMW’ is now included in its name. It’s also the first time the B4 has been based on the more practical Gran Coupe bodystyle, as previously it has only been offered in regular coupe and convertible guises.
Using a 3.0-litre straight-six engine, the B4 serves up 488bhp and and 730Nm of torque, and though slightly less powerful than the M4 (which isn’t available as a Gran Coupe), it packs 80Nm more torque, allowing for a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds – making it quicker than the M4. It also has a top speed of 187mph.
The B4 also gets a number of other mechanical tweaks, not least a bespoke suspension setup including new front anti-roll bars and a bespoke spring and damper setup. These changes, along with a sportier steering rack, aim to ‘combine emotional driving dynamics and comfortable touring’, Alpina says.
In terms of design, the B4 gets a range of revised elements, including a set of Alpina’s trademark style of alloy wheels, here measuring 20 inches, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero performance tyres, which were developed directly with Alpina.
Other changes include new bumpers with a more aggressive front splitter and rear diffuser. Alpina’s well-known pinstriping is available too, along with blue and green paint finishes that are exclusive to the brand. The performance exhaust also features four oval pipes.
The Alpina B4 Gran Coupe is now available to order now, with first deliveries stated for July. UK prices haven’t been announced, but the model is priced from €91,800 (£77,840) in Germany.
